RE: RE: baseball cards (NSC)

I was into baseball cards like crazy as a preteen, and I was smart to save most of them I had from 1961 till the mid '60s. Then when I moved out west, about a year later my parents sold the house that I mainly grew up in, and when they cleaned out the closet in the basement where I had some of my stuff kept, my mom, after throwing out all of my early issues of Rolling Stone magazine from 1967 till 1969 (back when it was actually a great read), she was about to do the same with all of those old baseball cards. She had no clue they were worth money. But lucky my 2 oldest nephews were there and although they were only around 10 or so, they knew better and saved them for me. They went to a baseball card collectors convention in NYC some time after that with my sister and sold them for me and we split the cash. but the most expensive card I had was of Mickey Mantle, from 1962, but as a boy (really, to this day) I totally hated the NY Yankees, and being a small fry, I drew horns on top of his head, gave him a back eye, and drew moles on his face. The guy who ended up guying the card told my sister that the card was worth something like $1,000 in mint condition, and about $200 plus used (this was back around 1978 or so). "Who the hell ruined this card!" he asked my nephews. One of them told the old man, "My uncle did that, Mickey Mantle was on the damn Yankees, and we hate them!". Then the guy told them what the card would be worth if I hadn't done that. I told the boys afterwards that they should have shown our true hate towards the Yankees by burning the card in front of him. But anyway, they still got $20 for that one card, as it was. I told them to burn the $20 dollar bill he gave them for it, LOL! I still hate the Yankees, Ronnie
