Just about all of those people we see in that photo, and in others taken on that day, are gone now, including my dad, who was in another photo that appeared in many other newspapers around the country, just not anywhere as famous as the one that Greta Friedman was in. In fact I'm sure most forgot about his photo in a short time, but it did appeared in many papers and many who were alive back then saw it. In the NY Times, it appeared with several other photos taken of people reacting to the news around the county that the war was over.
My dad was an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army back then, working as a spy in both Hawaii, and in California during WW2. He was in California at a navy base (for some reason) on that day with his girlfriend, who's next to him in the photo. The quality of the photo ins't to good, since it was taken from a old newspaper, but here it is. But if you're around 80 or over, you might recall seeing this photo back then, I just don't think anybody that old reads this joint:
