RE: RE: RE: Mirra Alfassa aka The Mother (NSC)

When I moved here 15 years ago, the average person lasted less than 2 years here, that was it. Yet since then, around the time I got here, others like me stayed put, too, and now there's a lot of people who have been here a long time like me. But there's still about half the people who come here and just don't last here more than a year or 2. It's one of the coldest places in the U.S. to live in the wintertime at night, no supermarkets within a one hour drive (one way), poor or no cell phone service in half the town, and the people are very poor here, our county is the poorest one in all of Colorado. Yet there's a handful of very rich here too.. we also have a few famous people who either live here FT or PT, too.

I do volunteer work at the local food bank every Wednesday in town, so I get to know most of the poorest people living in the area. How some of these folks and their kin live is something indeed. But the food bank is located in town hall, in the heart of downtown Crestone, and around 4 pm today I took a break and was hanging outside, watching how even the littlest of kids are riding their bicycles or skateboards in the middle of main street and there's no traffic at all for their parents to worry about. Really, parents here worry more about our wild animals hurting their kids than them being hit by cars, or hurt by other people here, and even downtown has a major bear problem... they seem to be everywhere, breaking into everything they can break into. August thru late October is the worst time of year for them, as they are feeding all day long, then they sleep for the entire winter and all we have to look out for are the coyotes, and if you live by the creeks, then mountain lions, too. But I would rather put up with that than bad people any day!
