OOOH/ABB/TSMR/VL/StonerRockers/Mono/Stereo/Fabs

Tonight we enter week 891 of the Stones poll, and as usual we will vote on 2 different Stones poll questions. For our first Stones poll, it’s the fourth week of the Crazy and Insane polls, featuring the Stones Out Of Our Heads LP. The new question will be this: Out Of Our Heads vs A Bigger Bang , which album do you like the best?

vs

This week Out Of Our Heads goes up against the Stones last studio album, 2005's A Bigger Bang. New stuff VS old stuff, is a way to look at this matchup of some excellent songs.

In the album VS standings, ABB is in 15th place at 4-4-1, while, OOOH, after last week, is now at 5-2 in 6th place.

To see the song list for Out Of Our Heads, both the U.S. and UK versions, go here: OOOH (Note, the cover shown above is the U.S. cover).

To see the song list for A Bigger Bang, go here: ABB

To cast your vote in this first Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

The week's second Stones poll will ask this: Their Satanic Majesties Request vs Voodoo Lounge, which album do you like the best?

vs

In our second Stones poll, we bring back the Satanic Polls, featuring the 1967 trippy LP Their Satanic Majesties Request. Not your typical Stones album, but a hippie psychedelic album, which fit in well with '67's mood just fine. There were 2 big hit singles on here, ""She's a Rainbow" and "2000 Light Years From Home", both featuring Brian Jones on mellotron. This LP also had a hidden track on it, called "Cosmic Christmas" (which at first was the name of the entire LP), and this time featured Bill Wyman on mellotron.

Voodoo Lounge was released in 1994 and contained the hit "Love is Stong". This matchup should be interesting, as not only do I rate them both almost the same, so do Stones fans, going by past polls and album reviews submitted to this site. In the album VS standings, TSMR has a 5-3 record and is in 10th place, with VL right behind it with a 5-5 record.

To see the song list for each album, for Their Satanic Majesties Request, go here: TSMR, and for Voodoo Lounge, go here: VL.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Looking back at last week’s first Stones poll we asked: Out Of Our Heads vs Dirty Work, which album do you like the best?.

vs

Well, you didn’t think for a second that DW had a chance in this poll, did you? Not only has DW lost 17 in a row in this series now, but every loss has been by a major landslide. To see the landslide results from this poll, go here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 890, poll 1. I’ll also add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls

Last week at the Stones VS poll, we askedSteel Wheels vs England's Newest Hit Makers, which album do you like the best?

vs

Another poll where one album did very well and the other didn’t. You can see the final totals from this poll by clicking here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 890, poll 2. I’ll also add the results from this poll to the Stones VS Page 1 too, this is the same link noted above for the first poll.

At the Classic Rock Poll, we enter week 531, and as usual we’ll vote in 2 polls in this one too. The first question in the Rock Poll this week is: Who was the most stoned out rocker?

Now we are not asking for the biggest junkie here, although junkies should be considered too. By "stoned out", we mean being stoned on anything, booze, weed, acid, heroin, coke, etc.

Of the 40 listed rockers, of those who are still around today, for them you can go by when they were at their most wasted, or, if you know that they are no longer a stoner today, that might influence you not to vote for them now, it’s up to you decided if that should be weighted in or not.

So who you will you vote for? Just click here to see who’s on the list: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For this week’s Rock VS poll, the new question is: Stereo recordings vs mono recordings, which sound do you like better when you listen to music?

vs

We've been talking about this here in the last week in regard to the upcoming new Stones release of their old music on a mono (aka monaural or monophonic sound reproduction) format only. Seems a lot of our poll questions come from what we speak about here at Gasland. But this is a simple question, one that should take you less than a few seconds to answer.

To vote on this VS question, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: Which Classic Rock band was the freakiest looking?.

Frank Zappa and the Mothers were voted on as the freakiest looking band. I must admit, I didn’t see that result coming. I really wasn’t sure who was going to be picked, just didn’t think Frank’s band would do as well as it did. But I agree that Frank was freaky looking, that’s for sure!

You can check out the full, final results from this Rock poll by clicking here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 530. You can also check out the final results at the Top Ten Lists, Page, 11.

In last week’s Rock VS poll, we asked: Woodstock 1 vs Woodstock Two, which LP covers the music from the 1969 festival, better?

vs

Somewhat close voting, but one album did clearly win in the end To find out which one, go here, click here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 530. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We close out this poll post each week talking about the Beatles poll, where it’s week 284, and this week’s new question is: What is your least favorite song on the Beatles LP Abbey Road

Released in December of 1969, this was the last recorded original studio album by the Beatles; although it wasn't the last released original studio album by the band (you already know the story why).

As some of you know, I look at Abbey Road as the greatest rock album ever made. Many others do too, and one might feel looking for a least favorite song on this masterpiece will be impossible to do. But for me anyway, it will be easy, even if every listed song on this LP is flat out great, there’s one great song on here for me that isn't as great as the others.

I had to consider if I should include or not include the ditty "Her Majesty" in the song list for this album. I decided not to, since when the album was released, this song was only a hidden track and not shown on the album's sleeve and the LP was listed as having 16 and not 17 songs. When the CD came out in 1987, it was noted as the 17th track, but not until them, so officially it is, or at least, was, a true hidden track, one that Paul McCartney wrote and he was the only performer on. He intended to have the tune appear on the album on side 2, where the medley of short songs are, appearing between John Lennon's 2 songs, "Mean Mr. Mustard" and "Polythene Pam". But Paul decided he didn't like how his song sounded and decided not to use it on the LP. He told the studio engineers to remove it from the tapes, they did, but they were trained not to throw anything away that the band was recording, so it was temporary placed on the master tape 20 seconds after the LP's closing song, and it was planned to be removed and saved on another tape before the album was pressed. But when the master tape of the LP was played for the Beatles, it hadn’t yet been removed, and when hearing the 24 second song in the way it showed up 20 seconds after the close, the Beatles loved how it sounded in that way and decided to keep it on there just like that and use it as a hidden track. IMO, a great move on the Beatles part! However, if you look at "Her Majesty" as a separate song, my guess is that it would rate as the least favorite song on the album. But officially, it wasn't on the album as a listed track when the LP was first released, and that’s why we will not be voting on it in this poll.

To see the songs that were listed on this LP, please use this link: Abbey Road. To vote in the poll, go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: What is your least favorite song on the Beatles LP Yellow Submarine?

In last week's Beatles poll, 96% of the votes went to 5 of the 7 non Beatles, non-rock songs on side 2. Not that that should surprise anybody reading this. Interesting that the top 2 songs picked – being “Sea of Holes” at 27%, and “Sea of Time“ at 21.7%, were on the U.S. release listed as one track, but as 2 songs on the UK album.

To check out the full, final results from this poll, go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 283. Or, you can check out the results at the Beatles list page for "Songs per LP" , located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

Well, another week in 2016 is now over and a new one begun. Here in Colorado it’s been like fall for the last week, on the cool side for sure, which I think is wonderful! Well, a bit too much rain perhaps, but the sun shinned for most of every day, too. Up high on our tallest mountains, snow fell and accumulated on 4 of the last 7 days. But down here our biggest problem is the neighborhood bear, who’s been hanging around our house every night for the last week causing damage – it shattered the glass on my daughter’s car window a few nights ago, even though there was no food in the car. A house a few blocks away was broken into 2 weeks ago, so you got to look out around your area before you head out the door at night around here or you might walk right into his path. In cities and urban areas you got to worry about people breaking into your home and/or attaching you on the street. We don’t have people here who do that, but we do have bears who do the same thing. Oh well, at least the bears hibernate in the winter and give us a break!

Thanks to all of you who take part in our weekly polls each week, and I hope all of you have a great upcoming week ahead.
