I had Johnny's brother, Edger, on the list (well, his band) early on, but since he and his bro are albinos, and I felt some would vote for them and look at them as freaks simply because of their skin condition and not because they looked like hippie freaks in general. So I ended up removing Edger's band from the list, since people who have those kinds of conditions where they can't control their looks, are called freaks more as an insult, or to make fun of them, and not because that's how they wanted to look. This poll isn't being run to make fun of anybody's looks, it's to celebrate people who looked, or look, different (by choice), if anything. Now yes, both of the Winter brothers did looked like hippie freaks with their very long white hair, but I felt that some would only vote for them because of skin condition, and I'm not looking for that at all when I use the word "freak".
I'll note here while closing, that I added one more choice to the poll list last night, so there's 40 choices now... I received an email yesterday afternoon asking why Leon Russell wasn't listed, and yes, he's very freaky looking indeed, especially today, but he was always more of a solo act, and this is about bands, not solo performers (maybe I should have listed both, but I didn't and it's too late now). But after a while I decided to add in a band that he lead to backup Joe Cocker, that being Mad Dogs & Englishmen, so that band is now listed, too.
