I almost always close out the poll post each week with a simple comment on what's happened in the past week to me, and usually it's a positive note, or maybe a bitch about the weather, etc. But I never had to close it with something like that. But I still even tonight have Troy-boy on my mind (that's what we called him for years as he grew up).
Dying so young makes it worst. It was weird, when I was in my 20s and I lost 3 very close friends between 20 and 26, and knew another 3 kids from the 'hood who were also in their 20s when they died, too. So while I was working in the garden on Monday, I had that on my mind (and was also thinking of Rock's 27 club) and then thought, how common is that?... Well, it ain't common at all, as I looked it up, and the chance of anyone dying in their 20s is 0.01%, and with those under 25, it's something like 1 in 1200! Yet I knew at least 6 people personally who died under 27 when I was about the same age, and although I had many friends at that age, I had nowhere near twelve-hundred, or even 100! That was some real bad luck, but I also, when looking back, realized that Troy's passing last week was the first person in the their 20s whom I personally knew since I lost my friends all of those years ago, so yes, I guess it is rare.... But I knew this boy his entire childhood, with me being like an adult uncle to him and his brother, so that makes it harder to take. I can think of other people's children who I wasn't at all related to, who I was very close to, and in my entire adult life I can only think of 5 such children, with Troy and his brother being 2 of them. But to die under 30 is just way too soon!
