RE:advice for ceiling fans (NSC)

Oh!!! Wow!!! I just looked up at the ceiling with a thought and saw there's a massive fan up there at the top of the vaulted ceiling in the living area - will be good when the weather warms up in a few days!! I suppose I need to push all the light switches to figure out which one works the fan, LOL - thanks for helping me discoverit,

Let me give you a suggestion on using that fan, since you just reminded me of something that happened to me and my ceiling fan in my old house.... First, look around for a round switch on the wall, that will be the one you need to turn it on with. But then.... well, let me tell you a story....

I lived in that old house with the ceiling fan for 19 years, it was located in the living room, which had a very high ceiling. When I was looking at the house before I brought it, I saw the fan up there and said something to the real estate agent like, "how nice, a ceiling fan, never had one before!" The agent then said to me, "Oh, I should tell you that the owner says that the fan doesn't work, it barely spins and needs fixing (the old lady who lived in the house for about 10 years before me had already moved out). So when I bought the house and moved in, on the very first hot day, I tried to turn on the fan and sure enough, it barely spun at all, so I never tried to use it again. But it used to get into the 90s there regularly each summer and I always wished it worked, but I had a floor fan that I used instead and never tried to fix the ceiling fan, since I'm not the kind of guy who fixes things like that. Then about 2 summers before I sold the place, my friend's son, who was only about 10 or so at the time, says to me on one hot day, that I should turn on the fan. So I told him it didn't work, and he goes to the outlet switch and tries to turn it on, and sure enough it barely moves. He then looks up at it and says to me, you just need to turn that other switch on the bottom of the fan a bit and it will spin faster. "What switch?" was my answer, since I never had such a fan in the past and had no clue. The damn fan was way up there and I never looked that close at it before. So I got a ladder, climbed up there and sure enough the kid was right, I just turned the switch to the right and the fan then spun real fast and worked fine! This was 17 years or so after I moved in, and the old lady before me lived there for 10 years thinking it was broken too, so that fan wasn't used for almost 30 years because of 2 stupid adults who didn't know better!

So for only the last 2 summers that I lived there, I got to use that fan, and it helped to cool off that place nicely... if I had only known! So when you try to turn on your fan, make sure you check the second switch on the bottom of the fan, too, or it may not spin at all till you do!
