You can look at that list and say, is Ronnie better a guitarist than many of those even in the 50 to 100 spots, like the Steve Jones, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Buck, Tom Verlaine, Andy Summers, Nels Cline, Lou Reed, John Frusciante, Ron Asheton, Johnny Marr? Of course he's better than all of them and perhaps 2 or 3 more that I didn't list. Plus how could somebody like Johnny Ramone, who was so limited in his skills, be at 28?! Or George Harrison at 11, when so many guitarists are way behind him on that list?
That list was put together by the voters going by the kind of music they personally liked, not by the skills of each guitarists going up against each other, which is why such a list is never going to completely be right - or wrong. I rather hear who some of these voters were into, and that will tell you and me something more about that list.
Bottom line is Ronnie would be on my list, and for me, my list is the only one that counts to my ears. So what I'm saying is, while I like to hear who anybody's favorite list is, that's cool to hear, yes it is, but to say these 100 are the best ever going by that combo of the few voters who they polled, isn't going to be correct or incorrect ever, or accurate as to who's really in the top 100. Once you have a list put together where thousands of votes were a part of, then the list speaks a lot more, but asking the few handful who they picked, just won't work in such a small group setting, to where you can say this is the true top 100 best in the business, when it clearly ins't.
There were a few players who didn't make the list who should have besides Ronnie, and most important, not enough people were asked to say this is the true top 100 list, that's the bottom line!
