The screaming girls grew older - actually I discovered that if I didn't scream I couldn't hear anything, but if I screamed I could hear the music through the screams, so I became one of those screaming girls so that I could hear!!!! How insane is that!! Anyway, there was a new, younger set of screaming girls screaming over other bands, like the Bay City Rollers. Those of us who just enjoyed the music were more than happy to sit down on the floor and be able to actually listen and hear the music.
Keno - I was at the free concert in Hyde Park - I know the band were subdued, but the audience vibe was really no different to many other events that took place at that time - and I was living and breathing live music 7 days/nights a week at that time in my life. I would have sensed a felt difference in the energy if the audience were that subdued - it was still very much the hippie era: most people sat down to listen to music - unless they were part of the "idiot dancer" crowd (a bunch of people who frequented Middle Earth like Gandalf and his friends - I never did know any of their real names).
Music includes and transcends death because there is no separation in the felt experience. The film didn't capture the audience mood - just the vibe within the band.
Altamont, in my opinion, cannot be spoken of in the same breath as Hyde Park (which was very peaceful). It's been well documented that the Stones' management had no clue about Hell's Angels in America. The festival was held in what was then redneck country - we're talking the wild West, not the same as Woodstock - held somewhere in upstate New York.
