I won't be dancing on his grave, but let it be said that Scalia was as evil as it gets, an unflinching corporate tool and social reactionary. I notice that Republicans are now saying there is no "precedent" for filling a vacant Supreme Court seat this late in a president's second term. I guess one could say there is no precedent for a sitting member of the Supreme Court to suddenly and unexpectedly die with 11 months remaining in that second term. This posture is really nothing new, as the GOP has been obstructionist from day one since Obama took office. If they go through with their pledge to block any nominee, indeed to not even hold hearings, it will backfire big time. Leaving an unfilled U.S. Supreme Court seat in place for up to a year and a half, given the confirmation process involved for filling a vacancy, would be a slap in the face of the U.S. Constitution, which makes zero mention of the U.S. Senate forfeiting its responsibility if the president has "lame duck' status.
