RE: The Best Songs When You're Stoned? ssc

I'm no longer indulging in such, and have no objections to those that who do, but I can vividly recall certain pieces of music that took on a markedly different character when stoned. One of them was "Music From Big Pink" by The Band. After first hearing it not under any influence, it came across as a pleasant enough sounding album with an original sound, but nothing too earth-shattering. Then spinning again after toking it seemed to take on some strange psychedelic over tones. Subtleties came to the forefront, and the haunting melodies seemed to have spiritual qualities that are hard to define. And with "Chest Fever", the churning organ breaks came across as overpowering but in a positive sense. This album remains one of my all-time favorites, but I wonder if that would be the case had I not listened to it while stoned. "Going Home" from Aftermath is another one, where a lengthy blues jam that goes on a tangent becomes quite trippy, (notably Brian's reverb-laden harmonica bits and Keith's quivery guitar).
