RE: RE: RE: Ranking The Stones Live

I regret that I missed for one reason or another(usually money, lack of) the times the band came to this town in the sixties. I have to rely on what I can read really, and accounts from mates who did see them then. If I had seen them then, then I'm sure that would be my no.1.

I first saw them on their short farewell to Blighty tour in 71, a few days before their 'Leeds Lungs' gig. I'm sure the set lists were pretty much the same. I'm like Keno though, an hour after a gig I can't recall everything that was played. It was for that reason I ended up stumbling across this place, looking for help with a set list after a gig.

Great as my first live experience of the band was, I'm not including it, I don't think it was a particularly good tour. I suppose I should really be including all the tours of the 2000's when I finally got to go to gig's with my family, and also a number of gigs with Gassers.

It was all smashing, but I'm not including them. Like Cockroach I'm having a short list with only the 69 and 72 American tours on, and in that order. These were the tours of legend, the ones you wish you had been at the gigs. The books, the films, the live album, the stabbing, the debauchery, the whole sorry mess, unsurpassed in rock history. During that period 69-72, the band reached their absolute zenith as far as I'm concerned. Only one way to go from there I'm afraid.

So that's it for me 69 and 72, and I don't care that there was a liberal sprinkling of Exile in 72. I can take it.
