I'm afraid they have been here so long they are now naturalized residents, although they have retained the all the characteristics of the American; large, loud, aggressive, destructive and users of more than their fair share of resources(nuts, trees, and attics in this instance).......
The native red having beat a tactical retreat to the last remaining stands of the ancient Caledonian forest to escape the grey onslaught, must be taking some quiet satisfaction from the fact, that it is now the American cousin who is being hunted down, and served up in fancy eateries across the land. Being Brits, the reds have a well developed sense of irony.
