And you're right about the whole Groundhog Day thing. It's just a silly ritual and tradition which has nothing to do with accurately forecasting the weather.

I knew that when I wrote my post. I know it has zero scientific basis but I like groundhog day because it talks of spring. You have no idea how I count the days - no, make that the hours - until spring.

I think groundhogs are cute, too. The critters I could do without are the squirrels. There are just too many of them in my neck of the wood. We stopped being friends when a couple of them decided to squat my attic two winters ago. It cost me a couple of hundred bucks to get rid of them, not to mention hours of sleep.

Needless to say, the opening they used to get inside has since been blocked off.
