JJF/SFTD/False endings/VS and AR polls

Well it's early Monday morning, just past 1am Gasland Time, and with a new month now underway. Did January fly by for you too? It was perhaps the saddest month in rock history in years, with all of these deaths of several rock stars for us fans to deal with, so let's hope February is better. But what a way to start off a new year.

Did you also notice had Gasland, for the last few months, has been rocking again with lots of posts, kind of like it was in the old days before Facebook and Twitter came along and took some of our posters away. But for January we were very busy here with some interesting posts, no question ‘bout it. Hell, I also can’t recall when the board was loading so slow at the end of the month cause of so many posts. But many new posts are a good thing overall, other than more cleanup work for me to do. But let’s hope this new month brings us still more to post about, just hopefully only good news this time around.

For this week's polls, and for only the second time ever, we will have 5 weekly polls running in one week, and that’s only happening because of a mistake I made after I programed the 4 new polls for this week... I'll explain this down below a bit more when I get to where the extra poll comes up. So we enter week 862 of the Stones’ poll and here is the new question: Which artist covered the Stones' ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, the best?

Last week's poll asked the same question about SFTD and proved very popular, with our biggest turnout of votes since 1998 when the poll first started up! So this week we go with what is perhaps the other most favorite of Stones songs, JJF, and see if our voters like this question, too!

Unlike last week's question for best SFTD cover, where I noted how all of the 11 covers listed were very good, I can't say that about this week list of 12 covers, since I find 3 of them not that good at all. It doesn't matter right now which 3 I feel this way about, but as far as the best covers of this song goes, well the best ones are all better than the best ones last week for that same poll just noted (IMO of course). So yes, 12 covers are listed this week, but like I noted last week, if you know of a major rock artist that I missed who covers this tune, please let me know ASAP.

Also like last week, since I know many of you won't know all of these covers, I provided YouTube links to every one of them so you can hear each one before you vote. But, and again this is a repeat from last week, once more than 10 choices are used/shown in any poll, instead of voting by clicking on the bullet (or dot) in the poll choices list, with 11 or more choices, a pull down menu is used to pick your choice with instead, and with a pull down menu, the YouTube links don’t show (nor are clickable) as they would for on the bullet list. So the links are not at the voting booth, but on the poll results page which you can get to from here..

BTW, and yet another repeat from last week.... you will notice the order of poll choices for this poll isn’t listed in the usual alphabetical order. That's because of how the embedded links I'm using this week are placed in the poll's admin, even though you don't see the embedded links and their http in the choice field, they are still in the poll's admin, and the admin sees them before the name of the artist listed, so that's why it's all listed out of the usual order we normally see. But no, I'm not favoring anybody here by listing them in this unusual order.

Okay, sorry about all of those repeats from last week, don’t think I ever had to repeat myself that often before, but anyway, it’s time to vote! So which cover of this song do you like best? To vote, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll.

For last week’s poll results, we just missed, seeing for the second week in a row all 4 of our weekly polls in the same week go over 600 votes cast in each poll – by a mere 4 votes (in the VS poll). Oh well, but for last week’s Stones poll we asked: Which artist has covered the Stones' 'Sympathy For The Devil', the best?. You would think after seeing a record number of votes in this poll last week that we would have a winner to declare here, but instead we had a tie for first place between Motörhead and Guns N Roses, with both taking in 34% of the votes each. In third place we saw Popa Chubby at 13.6%, and all of the other covers took in less than 10% of the vote each. So really, other than the 2 covers that tied, that’s where most of our votes ended up, and I guess we’ll have a runoff poll next week to see which version of SFTD out of those 2 we like best.

To see the full final results from this poll, click on here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 861.

At the Classic Rock Poll, we’re in week 502 of polling, with the usual 2 polls a week to vote in. The first question is: What is the best false ending to a rock song? (Part 3 of 4)

Part 3 of this interesting question is here. We will have another 28 songs to vote on in this final week before we then next week, vote on the most popular songs picked in the first 3 weeks.

Now to my mistake that is resulting in 2 Beatle polls this week… I didn't remember until after I put this week’s first rock poll together, that the Beatles song 'Get Back" has 2 totally different false endings to it, depending on if you are listening to the album version of the song, or the single version, and this song should had been listed twice in the poll, perhaps in separate weeks. But not only had I already built the poll online when I remembered this, we already have 3 Beatle songs listed in this week's poll, which is really too many, as no other artist has even 2 songs listed this week. So this is what we'll do.... If you like either version best over the other songs listed, vote for the song as it's listed here, and in case this song gets chosen for next week's final round (and all of the songs by the Fabs are getting picked so far), to fix this problem, since the 2 versions should have been listed separately, I'm gonna run a second Beatles poll this week where we will pick between the 2 versions. Actually, this makes for a great Beatles vs question, which I never thought about running before. So a mistake turns into a new poll, and whichever version of the song comes in first at the Beatles poll, will be used in Part 4, if the song makes the final cut in the Rock poll.

To make your pick and vote in this week’s first rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For this week’s Rock VS poll, the new question is: Heavy Metal vs Reggae, which music genre do you like more?

This is week 5 of the “Bang Your Head” VS poll featuring Heavy Metal music, and it will go up against a form of music, that being Reggae, which is very different from metal music indeed. You could say that with metal you bang your head while with reggae you expand your head.

So with a clear difference between these 2 genres which one do you prefer more? Just click on Classic Rock Poll to vote, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What is the best false start to a rock song? (Part 2 of 4) The top 7 voted on songs saw enough votes to make their way into Part 4, they are: A Day in the Life - The Beatles (15.6%), Good Vibrations - Beach Boys (10.9%), Shout - The Isley Brothers (10.9%), Bike - Pink Floyd (9.9%), Cry - Godley and Crème (9.9%), Piggies - The Beatles (9.9%), November Rain - Guns N' Roses (9.8).

You can check out the full finial results by clicking here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 501.

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: Heavy Metal vs Country/Southern Rock, which music genre do you like more? For the second week in a row, Metal music didn’t do too great, but as least the landslide last week wasn’t as big as it was 2 weeks ago. To see the final results from this poll, click here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 501. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We close up this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 255, and week 5 of the Beatles album vs album polls, which is featuring the Abbey Road LP. The question is: Abbey Road vs Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band , which album do you like the best?

vs

This week AR goes up against another very popular Beatles album Which LP will you go with? To cast your vote in this week’s Beatles poll, use this link: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: Abbey Road vs Magical Mystery Tour , which album do you like the best?

vs

AR was chosen once again, this time in a landslide win, and I got a feeling it ain’t gonna ever lost in these polls. To see the final results from this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 254. Or, you can check out the results at the The Beatles' Studio Albums page, located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

A big “Thank You!” to all of you who voted last week in almost record numbers in all 4 of our weekly polls, and I hope you all have a great upcoming week!
