Years ago, my high school buddy and Roommate, stumbled upon a movie so bad that we had to watch it just to see how it ended. It aired on some movie channel. The movie was called "Blame it on the night" The premise is a rock star discovers he has a son and the two get to know each other. It was as bad as any bad 80's movie can be. A David Hasslehoff with a mullet, getting to know his 13 year old Tom Cruise of a son.
The movie did have it's impact on my friend and I however. We buckled down and watched the whole thing. In part to a case of beer and probably some pot. The movie had such an impact that the phrase "Blame it on night" became somewhat of a mantra for us. Whenever something went wrong, one of us was quick to say "Blame it on the night" From spilled Milk to Flat tires, we would "Blame it on the Night"
Failed relationships and burned out light bulbs were Blamed on the Night. Seeds and Stems? "Blame it on the Night"
Fast forward to last night. Watching TV with friends and what appears? You guessed it. I immediately launch into a tyrade on how bad the Movie is. Much to the amusement to those around me. Just as I was declaring "no good could become of that movie" across the screen flash the words "Screen play by Mick Jagger" "What???" I scream. My love of the Stones is not unknown to the people I'm with so they spar me insistently. "How could it be?" So we watch the movie. Still as bad as I recall but I did catch a few things in it I missed first time around. Mainly that Mick co wrote the screen play and it featured cameos by Merry Clayton, Billy Preston and Ollie Brown. How can a movie so bad be so Stonesy Ronnie???
