I picked "they were even" in the Stones poll. I was thinking about all those great soundboard shows that we have, which I listen to all the time mainly because of MT. Maybe that was a slanted view of things. Maybe I should have voted for MJ. Maybe... I dunno. I'll let my vote stand.
Gosh I can't pick one over the other in the first rock poll. Most of these are richly deserving of a vote. I know I won't be voting for Altamont because the nastiness there didn't happen on stage. The Stones' mistake was to think that the Hells Angels in the USA were basically the same thing as the British outfit. No one told them otherwise. In my book, that's an error in judgment and it doesn't qualify as "stupid shit". The rest of them, though, do. And I can add one for you Keno: the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd (mostly Gary and Allen, but Leon and Billy as well) repeatedly drive under the influence and keep totalling cars.
I'm sure we could find many more.
Jimi Hendrix cover in the second poll. I'm not a fan of Bob Dylan and I'm happy to give my vote to Jimi because even though the fans love him, I don't think he stands a chance in this poll.
"Let It Be" gets an 8. It's not a bad album and it does have moments of brilliance, but I see it as a collection of songs more than a cohesive work.
