AR is a peculiar thing for me. Indeed, the more years that pass the less and less I listen to the Beatles in general, but especially their last 3 albums. To be clear, those 3 all have songs that are dynamite, but the stuff in between reveals itself more and more these days to me as being UTTER rubbish.
I will admit that Side 2 of AR is utter majesty, save Her Majesty, which was stupid in the middle where it belonged initially, but especially stupid tacked onto the end of the End. Side 1 is garbage, save for Come Together and Something, but I think of those more as singles anyway, that were tacked onto side 1 to make it seem like it isn't the trash heap that it is.
Sorry if that sounded a little harsh, but I was also remembering the recent thread about the White album, and how it shouldn't have been a double album. We all disagree on exactly which songs we'd put onto our "own" version of the White album, but to be sure, I agree that it should have been a single, as half of it belongs in the same pile as side 1 of AR. And Let it Be should have been a small EP, as there are only about 2 good songs on each side. In general, I don't think the Beatles were ever as consistent as the Stones, but when they were good they were very very impressive, and when they were not, well....
