When I was much younger, DST started on the last Sunday in April and ended on last Sunday of October. Then some time in the 80s, they moved the beginning of DST to the first Sunday of April. Then we had the completely ridiculous change of a few years ago, and DST now starts when there is still snow on the ground.
more people will barbecue more in those seasons if there is extra light in the evening, and it's been proven they sell more charcoal during DST...
I doubt that it's having that much of an effect up here. No one is going to barbecue with their feet in the snow when the temperature is around or below freezing. Brrrr!
I agree with you that it's wonderful in the summer. Who doesn't like those late June evenings when it's 9:00 PM and its not completely dark yet? I wish Canada hadn't followed the US when it made that last ridiculous change. But we had no choice, for economic reasons.
At least they didn't make DST last year round! If it ever comes to that, wouldn't it be simpler to kill DST and make everything start one hour later?
