RE: '60s Glimmer Twins/Moody Blues/VS poll/SPLHCB

Image wise, I would say Mick and Brian were the ones "out there" and the 2 that most fans (the casual fans too)recognized and attributed their success to, but I dont think Keith was sitting on his ass either. He and Mick wrote the songs. Even he and Brian collaborated, as we know.

Brian's importance to the construction of the Stones' image can never be overemphasized. In the "revisited" history of the Stones, his role has been downplayed to a ridiculously low level, but the photos, magazines and videos of the era tell the true story.

Image-wise, Brian was "the" Stone. Even more than Mick, despite Mick's advantageous position as the band's frontman. Mick borrowed moves from Brian, not the other way around. Brian was the most fashion-forward and he was in every teen magazine, constantly. Many bands had Brian clones. Look at photos of Keith Relf or any member of the Byrds, for example. They were all trying to look like Brian.

Yes Mick and Keith wrote the songs. There's no denying that (although there were many uncredited contributions from other band members) and there's no denying the importance of the songwriting machine to the band's long-lasting success. But I'll submit, and this is merely an opinion, not a fact, that in the 60s, image was at least as important as the music to the teen-aged girls who made up the overwhelming majority of the band's fans. They flocked to the concerts and screamed their lungs out, obviously not caring in the least that they couldn't hear anything.
