RE: Fall Stones

Here's a true story:

It was the fall of '01 in Idaho, and it was a true extended one, not simply a 2-day winter-to-summer crossover. I was barely past the first true year of knowing Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet, and only several months into Exile. I had read and heard only bad things about a failed album that ought to be forgotten called Goats Head Soup, but then one day I stumbled across a website called "Keno's Rolling Stones something-or-other" that had some folks saying pretty good things about it. It was actually Keno's review especially that made me go "oh, what the hell?" and I went out and bought it blind. Even back then, I didn't usually buy anything without knowing more; but I was also having trouble with Limewire at the time.

Anyway, although it was different I was immediately and passionately in love (I was also immediately and passionately in love with a girl at the time too) and thus listened to it every chance I got, forever intertwining it with Fall in my feelings, memories, and mind. It is a clever and perfect fall album anyway because of how it mixes the waning power and swagger of summer together with the tenderness and reflection of an imminent winter, but for me in particular it is quite quintessentially fall. I should note that I would lurk for years before joining in on the commentary at that aforementioned website....(it also took me years to marry that girl, but I eventually did!)
