Big peeve of mine.
Yours, mine and a lot of other people's. But not everyone else feels this way. I know people who love to see such bands. I think that remnants of bands who do this could silence a lot of the critics simply by adding something to the name, in order to distinguish it from the original band.
After John Densmore won his lawsuit forbidding Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger from calling themselves "The Doors", they started using the name "Doors of the 21st Century". That is the kind of thing I'm thinking of. The name "Doors" was still in there as a link to the past, but they were no longer "The Doors" because Jim was gone and John Densmore wasn't playing with the band. Too bad it took a lawsuit.
The Pete 'n Roger Show could have done something similar and I'm pretty sure that no one would be referring to them as "The Two". BTW, I've used the nickname too, also with credit to the author, of course.
