Love them! They are my "other favourite band" along with the Stones!
Gomper, a good place to start would be their live album, called "One More From the Road". Make sure to pick up the 2-CD 25th anniversary edition! Due to space constraints, a couple of songs that were on the vinyl album were dropped from original single CD issue. Plus the 2-CD reissue comes with a great booklet.
Other than that, the "Gold & Platinum" greatest hits package gives a nice overview of their studio career. And the songs were picked by the survivors of the crash, who also came up with the album's title. The three-disc box set is also nice and offers some deeper cuts.
As good as these guys were in the studio, they were always truly a live act. RVZ was a big Stones fan, he saw them in Jacksonville in 1966. The Stones were among Skynyrd's biggest sources of inspiration, along with Free and Cream.
As much as I love the pre-crash band, the post-crash editions leave me totally cold. As a matter of fact, the revolving door aspect of it is a major turnoff for me.
