RE: My picks

Stones poll: TSMR by, as DA noted, 2000 light years!

Rock poll: I went with Ron Blair, in part since Tom realized how much the band missed him in those 20 years he was away. Actually, he wasn't gone from the recording studio fir 20 years, as after he left, he played on parts of 2 more albums for them. Plus my vote ins't meant to take anything away from Howie Epstein either, who was a fine bassist, and really a guitarist and mandolin player first, who took the bass job in the band since that was all of what was available at the time.

I see that Tom himself is getting a bunch of the early votes so far, something we haven't seen before with a band's leader when asking this question. I can half understand this with TP, like I noted in the thread's opening post, many fans, including myself, feel the Heartbreakers are really just his backup band and he is the only one that stands out. Not sure if this will apply to other band leaders when we vote on down the long list of rock bands, but yes, this might be one of those very rare times when the band leader is the most underrated in the band. IMO, although I didn't vote for him, I agree that with those who say that without TP, the Heartbreakers would never have made it and won't be a known band today, or ever.

VS poll: I've always been a big fan of solo Paul, in fact what I just wrote about TP and his band above, would apply maybe to Wings and Paul's band, too. Although Wings did have a few heavy hitters in it once you removed Linda from the group. Yet for the song "Live and Let Die" I was never a big fan, it's, IMO, a average good song at best, but nothing special, not until G&R got their hands on it and made it a great song. So I'll go with their cover in a flash, and more than likely, once again pick the second place finisher in this VS poll (going by the early results, anyway).

Fab poll: I'll give it a "9". Perhaps one of the few Beatles albums not to get a 10 from me (not sure yet since I haven't looked deep into a few of the early ones as far as rating them all goes), in fact song wise I would say an "8", but you got to figure in when you vote, the year this came out, what else was being put out at the time, and the fact that they wrote their own songs, all of that alone places the LP up one more point for me.
