DA it was Dartford, easy mistake to make. I just lost quite a lengthy thing that I was about to post here (hit something by mistake) before everything goes sour. I'll try to give it in a much shortened version.
Listen guys lets not get our knickers in a twist, it's the internet not real life. We are free to talk about anything we like here, the FAQ says so, and that's good because we should.
There was some misunderstanding in the thread that contained PA's Wyman remark, I thought it was funny, others didn't. I didn't realise it was a R.I.P. thread because it didn't carry the custom and practice subject header for such threads, so I didn't understand why it was pulled. However I can accept it was a R.I.P. thread, and if an explanation post had been made, a lot of stuff could have been circumvented. The FAQ says nothing specific on the issue, but there is precedent, and I think if it had been explained again then people might have readily agreed that that was to be the custom and practice in R.I.P. threads.
So NB has made a post about another plaque, and taken a poke at Wyman a la PA., and immediately off we go again.
Like I said this is not real life, but some of the things we are talking about here have the potential to come back to bite people on the arse big time, out there in the real world.
You guys might remember a little while back when there was some fanciful notions going about here that Wyman and Taylor should be back in the Stones. At the time I said I thought given the prevailing climate in the U.K. re historic child sexual abuse that the Stones would be well advised to keep Wyman at arms length. If, and I agree it's unlikely, Wyman happened to be looking in I think I would be saying: Bill, take this as advice from someone who as a young teenager thought you were the number one Stone, something to do with the upright way you hold the bass, and the stony countenance I think. Anyway.
I read your recent comments about the Dartford plaque, and to be honest mate, I thought you made a bit of a diddy of yourself. No big deal, we all do from time to time. The point is though, you went public, and so put yourself in the public eye, albeit in a small way. Again, be honest, I think the last thing you should be doing is putting yourself out there in the public eye over a daft plaque or anything else. Not easy when you are a celebrity I know, but I think you should make yourself low profile man.
I'm sure that given the current climate, there must be many an ageing rocker wondering when the knock on the door is going to come.
I'm sure you are well aware of the daily revelations and allegations of historic child sex abuse here in the U.K. I'm sure you are aware that many from the showbiz/pop world are either in jail or under investigation. God knows where the allegations and investigations against the political establishment are going to end up. I wouldn't be surprised if you personally know some of these people who are in jail or under investigation.
I think it's one thing being a teenage or early twenties band member back in the sixties getting involved with teenage girls who may not have been of the age of consent. Who knows what went on in the back of vans, dressing rooms and boarding house bedrooms. All a bit 'iffy' but maybe comprehensible. Of course a thirteen year old girl and a forty seven year old man is a whole different thing. That is just plain seedy, not to say creepy, and if your ex wife is to be believed, illegal. Statutory rape at best.
I can accept that it was all a huge mistake, and I hope it's not one that comes back to haunt you in a custodial way. So again I would say, keep your your head down, and quietly enjoy yourself pursuing your anorak hobbies. In that respect you are a man after my own heart.
