Definitely not rubbish, and revolutionary in many respects. Pepper advanced the creative use of the recording studio as an instrument in itself, and accomplished it with the use of two 4-track tape machines. Producer George Martin was nothing short of genius, and he deserves as much credit as anyone in the Beatles for what the band accomplished. The songs flow in a very cohesive manner. The preceding album "Revolver" was equally brilliant but was more a collection of outstanding but unrelated songs together on one album. In addition, the cover artwork and inclusion of lyrics in a gatefold album cover also set a standard.
