RE: So what really is a guilty pleasure?

It could be defined as something, such as a movie, television sitcom, or piece of music / artist, that one personally enjoys despite abundant evidence that it is not generally held in high regard.

True, but for the polls it would be just for Classic rock music.

Blondie is indeed a guilty pleasure and I won't deny it. I know many others can't stand them and I can even understand why, but it won't alter my own perception or appreciation of their music.

No question they make the list, but if you like them, great! I never cared for them, they were at the most to me maybe a average band, but deep down I knew that they were really sub-par. I once could have seen them play for free and turned down the tickets to stay home and do nothing. A friend of mine who went said the place they played in was almost totally empty, nobody out west cared for them, really they seemed to have few fans outside of NYC. Then they made it into the Rock Hall years later, which IMO was the all time worst pick for the Hall. I think I started to hate them at the moment when Debbie Harry had her meltdown up on stage at the Hall and didn't allow her former band members to play with them. Just as bad when John Forgerty did the same thing to his former band members in CCR, but he at least was loaded with talent and CCR belonged in there, whereas Blondie had no business being in the Hall at all.

And there are countless others. REO Speedwagon anyone?

I would say no way to REO. Maybe, just maybe back east that might be the case, they never were big back there I guess, but everywhere else they were and I knew enough cool people who dug them. I recall when I came out west in '77, it seemed everybody was big into them, yet I hardly knew who they were. When I heard them, I did like them, although I wasn't blown away by them either. They were okay, and they knew how to play their instruments very well. But they weren't even close to being some crappy bubblegum group, they were a very good outfit indeed.
