I know it's not the thrust of your main argument here mikeeder, but just to point out that having the official cause of Jones' death changed to murder, is not within the remit of the Coroners Office, just as murder was not an outcome open to the Coroners Inquest. To have that happen is a whole different process, and I think DA has given very clear reasons why it's unlikely ever to be.
On the subject of the Coroners Office, and Coroners Inquests, I think if I was of the opinion that there was more to Jones' death than the official outcome, and I was going to do my own investigation perhaps for a book, then the Coroners system would be my starting point. Given that the Coroners Inquest is the only legal setting that has ever heard evidence as to how Jones died, it's clear to me that understanding and being totally conversant with the role of the Coroner, and the Coroner system would be central to any such undertaking.
Interesting point you make about Jones' 'hateful'parents, I have certainly read things about them that suggest they were cold and distant. It makes you wonder what sort of family environment Jones grew up in, and what effect it had on Jones'. It would appear Jones' had a difficult relationship with his parents, and it's well documented that Jones had less than savoury sides to his personality.
It's an interesting question you ask right at the end of your post mikeeder, and it has been argued over here, in the past. I think in part you perhaps answered it in your second last paragraph. It would appear Jones was an 'asshole' to several people who may have been in a position to help, so maybe they just didn't feel inclined.
