repost old Sun related albums you should have

Sorry to repost but I accidently put this in the middle of the thread and as I spent an hour or so on it I didn't want it lost.

OK my favorites by the big seven Sam Phillips protégées. Sam didn't issue a lot of albums, and I wanted to make this non comp, so only the Cash, Perkins and Oribison ones have Sun Recordings. Besides some of his artists developed even more after their time there.

Live At The Star Club Hamburg-Jerry Lee Lewis-1964

Jerry Lee is on fire the whole show. Just non stop rock and roll non comprimising. You will feel young again hearing this. A lot of hits are here, but he could done the alphabet that night and made it rock, just dynamite up there with Live At The Apolo as the best sixties live LP.

Many New Sides Of Charlie Rich 1965

A great blend of RnB, hard edgy ballads, and a hint of country Charlie puts out an extrodanarily durable rock and roll album here. Mohair Sam was the hit off of here and Elvis and the Beatles played it a lot at their meeting. I Can't Go On was the follow up and should have been even bigger.

Elvis Is Back-1960

Elvis is in the mood for blues and strong rock and roll. The ballads aren't sappy, the pop isn't too sweet. It is Elvis before he is tamed, but his voice has deleoped to where he can sing about anything with authority. A bit of the gospel touch, a bit of pop, a lot of blues, a great stereo mix, unlike most Elvis LP's there isn't one second of filler. Recosider Baby and Fever are the best known cuts

Blues Roots-Ike Turner 1972-

Forget his personal life for a moment, and forget Tina for another, this is simply my favorite Delta Blues album ever. Just a fantastic guitar heavy piano pounding slice of very hard blues that isn't watered down in the slightest. This isn't blues made for white yuppies, this is the REAL shit. Ike sings great too. Get this one fast.

Carl Perkins-1957-Dance Album-

All of Carl's best known stuff is here. Unlike his label mates he never really went past his inital rockabilly sound with any degeree of consistant sucess, so you really want his early stuff. Beatle fans will know this album by heart, but the originals are awesome. Blue Suede Shoes, Matchbox, Honey Don't almost all the singles are here.

Roy Orbison-Rockhouse-1961

Put out just as Roy was hitting at Monument, this Sun LP is just his best album. Though I love his hits as much as anyone, but unlike this title, his later albums all had some filler. I always did like Roy's rocking side and this pre fame stuff rocks very hard, just amazing stuff. If you never heard him in this era you have a treat coming. Ooby Dooby was the hit

Johnny Cash-Sings The Songs That Made Him Famous-1958

This came out right as he left Sun and it really shows his growth over his debut. There is a lot of diversity on here, country of course but also some good blues and even some rock. Just cool material and those who only know him from his elderly years will be surprised that he didn't always sound like a depressed sad sack. This record is above all fun.
