About nine months before the no autographs video he recorded a song and album called Liverpool 8. On a talk show to promote it he was asked what missed about the town and said "nothing". Locals were not happy, some protested at his concert there the same year and a statue of him in the city was beheaded by vandals. In any case, I do like his drumming fine. I think he was good for The Beatles even in the later years, and really do feel he had a good chemistry with them. He was fun in those years, and outside of Sentimental Journey his solo stuff on Apple holds up very well. Yet despite relentless touring none of his albums or singles since 1983 have gone near the top 40, most not even near the top 100. People simply don't like his new music, and I think it's partly down to his change of attitude which I first really noticed in his 1989 "comeback" interviews. He was really cocky and just didn't seem the same.
Yet it was in 2008 that he truly pulled the plug and some of his recent albums have sold in numbers like 3000 UK 20,000 US. That includes Vinyl, CD, Downloads the works.
While musically Paul is embarrising me more lately with that Kayne West crap, I guess I feel Ringo brought it on himself. Not only with being uneven musically, but just not being kind. It's sad because he seemed so cool when I was a kid back in 1986 getting into them. I even made my parents buy those Sun Country wine coolers he used to advertise before he went into rehab. I only had a sip at age 11 but hey I thought I was so cool because Ringo liked them.
