They need to get the guy that plays Barry Womb in the Rutles (the Ringo character) to do his own version. Maybe slowly, quietly, sadly, desperately, then pleadingly, ask for the return of his mail. Maybe beg on behalf of getting his postman's job back etc. I can just play it out in my head and laugh quite hard.
Seriously it was one of the most unnecessary things I've ever seen a public figure do. Just don't reply, or get your pr team to rubber stamp it.
He is really known for being rude to people about it. If you hate people that much, avoid public places where people are going to ask, and if you don't want to go that route, don't be rude to people when they do invariably ask. Politely refuse and that's all.
Well at least he warned us with peace and love.
