Some Girls/Exile On Main Street/Sticky Fingers/CCR

It’s time for week 832 of our Stones poll and we will ask this question: Which reissued Stones album has the best added bonus songs on it: Some Girls, Exile On Main Street, or Sticky Fingers?

Now this question isn’t asking for your favorite LP out of the 3 (since we already know that), we only want to know which of the 3, after being reissued, has the best added bonus songs on it, that's all we are looking for. Exile On Main Street was the first album reissued, back on May 17, 2010. Then Some Girls followed when it was reissued in 2011, and of course Sticky Fingers just a few weeks ago. Both EOMS and SG had actual new songs on them, while the SF reissue didn’t, only having a few new versions of already released songs, or live versions of songs already released.

So, which one had the best added bonus songs on it? To make your pick and vote, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll.

vs.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked this question: Tiebreaker poll: Hot Rocks vs Let It Bleed, which album had the best back cover? Although I do feel the 2 best back covers of the Stones albums were represented in this poll, I disagree with the final results.

You can check out those final results from this poll using this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 831 . You can also check out the final results online just under this list: Ratings for the Stones Album Covers .

Moving on to the Classic Rock Poll, where its week 474, and as usual, we will vote in 2 different polls for the week. In the first poll we will ask this: Who was the most underrated member of Creedence Clearwater Revival? It's been awhile since we last visited this line of questions, and this week we look at the band CCR. Talk about a group with a lot of tension in it, mainly thanks to its leader and main talent, John Fogerty. John wrote all of the songs (up until the last LP… and all of the good ones), was the lead guitarist, and the lead singer. But the band was actually started by his brother Tom, who at first was the lead guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist. But once they got to the studio to record, all of that changed and John took over, with Tom demoted to playing only rhythm guitar. That never sat well with Tom at all, and in the last 2 years of the band, Tom left and went solo, while the other 2 members of the band, drummer Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Cook, hung on with John.

But them 2 also were unhappy with John's actions, and then for what would turn into the last CCR album, John only wrote, sang, and played lead guitar on 3 songs, leaving the other 2 to come up with and write, sing, and play on their own songs, other than he would play rhythm guitar on those songs. This was seen as John really just getting back at his brother Tom, who left the group because John won't give him any chance to use any of his own songs. Other than John's 3 songs on the new album, along with a cover that he sang the lead on, the album, called Mardi Gras, and released in 1972, was not a hit or something CCR fans wanted to hear, and the group broke up for good shortly after its release. Tom died in 1990 and went to his grave still not talking to his brother. Then when the band made it into the Rock Hall of Fame in 1993, John acted like a true asshole and jerk by refusing to allow Clifford and Cook up on stage to play with him at the awards show (and the morons who run the Hall allowed this farce to happen). Yet with all of that said, no question about it, without John, CCR as a band would have gone nowhere.

So of the 4 band members, who was the most underrated? To vote in this week’s first rock poll, just click on: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll, we ask this: 'Don't Let Me Down' by The Beatles vs 'Don't Let Me Down' by Bad Company, which song is better?

The Beatles 'Don't Let Me Down' was written by John Lennon, and there were 3 main, but somewhat different versions of the song released, all recorded by the Beatles during the Get Back (later to become the Let It Be album) recording sessions.

The first version released, was recorded on January 28, 1969, and was the B-side to the single ‘Get Back’, which was recorded on the very same day. 'Get Back' reached number one on the charts while "Don't Let Me Down" reached number 35. The song was supposed to be on the Let It Be album, but for whatever reason, it was dropped. The album version finally showed up on the Beatles' compilation LP Hey Jude in 1971. The band also performed 'Don't Let Me Down' twice during their rooftop concert of January 30, 1969.

Don't Let Me Down' by Bad Company was released in 1974 and written by Paul Rodgers and Mick Ralphs, and showed up on their debut album of the same name. Many rock fans, or at least, many Beatle fans, feel this song was a rip-off of the Beatle song of the same name, which was released 5 years earlier. Besides having the same title, the very beginning sounds a lot how the Beatles song starts out, and it's sung in the very same slow fashion of the Beatles tune, especially the refrain, which sounds almost identical to the one sang on the Beatles song. Both songs deal with a person with a new love who is somewhat afraid to move forward in the relationship.

So which song out of the 2 will you vote for? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What is the best rock song about living life on the road while touring in a band? I felt this was a cool question, and the polling was close, with Bob Seger’s song “Turn the Page” taking first place with 9.9% of the vote. A great choice I’ll note, even if I didn’t vote for it, maybe have I should have, but I also still like the song I did vote for, which landed in second place, that being “Homeward Bound” by Simon & Garfunkel (at 9.3%). Third place was a tie between 2 CCR songs, “Lodi” and “Travelin' Band” both taking in 9.2% of the vote each.

To see the full, final results from this poll, click on: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 473. Or you can check out the Top 10 list from this poll at Top Ten Lists, Page, 11.

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: Tiebreaker poll: 'Down By the Seaside' - Led Zeppelin - Tremolo Guitar - Jimmy Page vs 'Mona' - The Rolling Stones - Tremolo Guitar by Brian Jones, which song has the better Tremolo Guitar playing in it?

Well I guess I could say it again, even if it’s getting old for this VS poll, but the song picked wasn’t the one I voted for, not that I expect the song I voted for to win.

To see if you picked the choice that most of the other voters picked, just go here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 473. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10, and the Top 10 results listed from when the poll was first held back in 2012, has been updated on Top Ten Lists, Page, 7.

I close out this week’s poll thread, as usual, with the Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 227, and we ask yet another guitar question about the Beatles, which is: From the 3 top songs voted on for best lead guitar by each Beatle, which one was the Beatles best lead guitar part played? 3 great songs to choose from, and they are all great in part thanks to the lead guitar heard in each song. Those 3 songs are: Revolution - Acid Lead Guitar by John Lennon; Taxman - Electric Lead Guitar by Paul McCartney, and Here Comes the Sun - Lead Acoustic and Electric Guitars by George Harrison.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked "From the 3 top songs voted on for best acoustic guitar by each Beatle, which one was the Beatles best acoustic guitar part played?

Well my friends, I totally fucked up on this poll and didn't even realize it until I was publishing this week's Beatle poll this afternoon, which, as you must have noticed, is a lot like last week's question, other than this week we're just looking for best lead guitar overall. It made sense to ask the question about acoustic guitar playing first, before asking about the overall best lead guitar, and so last week I did that and each day I was surprised at how poorly George's song was doing against the other 2 songs listed for John and Paul. What I didn't realize until I put this week's poll together, was that I had listed the wrong song for George in the acoustic question last week - and almost did the same thing in this week's new poll. In fact, I at first did that, and then when I looked over the choices after I published for the poll, I thought to myself, yes, George played acoustic guitar on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', but it wasn't a lead guitar on the song, so why and how did fans vote for it as his best overall lead guitar song? They didn't, 'Here Comes The Sun' was the song voted as his best lead guitar, so I fixed this week's poll choice and though to myself, how did I make that stupid mistake? Well I made the mistake because when I was putting both polls together about 3 weeks ago, I saw that for George, 'Here Comes The Sun' was his choice for both poll choices, as we picked his playing on this great song first in both polls held in the past. But, when I put the info for the final results onto the Beatles Miscellaneous List page at my Lennon site, I somehow placed WMGGW as George's top acoustic song by mistake and never realized it, and then when I put the 2 polls together in the future poll file I keep, I copied that info from that page and well, you see what happened. Then, I nor anybody else noticed the mistake until I did this afternoon. Shit! I'm very sorry about that and yes, I will re-run last week’s poll question, next week, this time with the correct choices listed. I guess I'm either going through the very early stages of dementia (sure hope not!), or, I just been smoking too much of my great, legal Colorado weed, which I hope is what's really getting in my way. Anyway, after I noticed the mistake, I decided to just delete the poll that was running with the wrong choices and again, I’m sorry about that and I will re-run the question next week instead. I still can’t believe I did that and I didn’t even notice it until this afternoon, almost a whole week after the fact.

Thanks to all of you who vote each week in all of our weekly polls and I hope you all have a great upcoming week!
