The Concorde had only one accident during its run from 1976 to 2003. Not bad. What killed it was money. It cost so much to develop it, It took years just to recoup those losses. The need to get around so fast simply died. the last commercial flight of the Concorde was 1/4 to capacity. A trend that had been going on for years. Then the 9/11 attacks. Really was indeed a symbol of 80's mind set and indulgence.
Oh, OK. I was under the impression that they had several mishaps in a row after the big accident and that at one point they decided that it just wasn't safe enough. Funny how your memory can play tricks on ya!
You're right about the plane being a symbol of the 80s' indulgence. And Phil Collins was the perfect illustration of that on that July night in 1985!
