RE: Will you get Satisfaction from this?

I'm no expert but I was around in 65 and I want to clarify a few things about the original release of Satisfaction and what you are getting for your money if you opt to buy this record. I know I'm interested in buying it because I will hear no better version of this song then what is presented here. (Hearing this song live doesn't count.)

The original 45 release of Satisfaction was recorded at two locations. First was at Chess studios where they used a 3 track recording method. Second was RCA in L.A. which used a 4 track recording method. The original single WAS NOT recorded in stereo. A true stereo version was not released until the 80's. Any so called stereo version prior to that (like the Hot Rocks version) is a reprocessed version of the mono mix to simulate stereo. Every time you heard Satisfaction up to the late 80's was a variation of the mono mix and even today, most times what you hear, excluding live versions, is the mono version at its core. If you think you are hearing stereo, your ears are fooling you. It is just my opinion, but the mono is what made Satisfaction one of the greatest songs recorded. The electronically reprocessed stereo version changes the sound in all the wrong ways and the true stereo mix is interesting at best.

I remember that a loaf of bread was 19 cents back in 65 and that gas was around 28 cents a gallon. Comparing item costs between the 65 single and this new release is like comparing mules to thoroughbred horses. On one side you have a 7 inch, 45 record lacking the lows and highs, that the RCA studio was known for sucking out of its recordings, that is made in the millions, designed to play on a record grinder turntable. On the other side you have a 12 inch, limited manufactured, 180g record that brings back the dynamics of the highs and lows and because of the wider grooves will produce a wider soundstage then previously heard. The set up costs and distribution cost between a mass manufactured item and a limited produced item is night and day.

If your turntable is covered in dust or packed away in the closet, then of course this release has no interest except for collectors which is not the intention of this release. If you want to hear that fuzz box guitar sound in all its glory, 15 dollars is not such a bad deal after all. So yes, Satisfaction can be had. But all this can be taken with a grain of salt as I'm not a hard nosed fan who can't take what is being given without asking for more.
