The 'Bitch' Keeps Bitchin' In Raleigh! (Part 3)

Jagger finally says, "We are going to play a couple of songs from Sticky Fingers." I feel a little better but not much. 'Out Of Control' has knocked my setlist bearings out of control! We are in the South - Dead Flowers, or Wild Horses could have been penciled in over my sweet 'Bitch' to cater to the Country music lovers. Man how I hated those people at that moment while that thought entered my mind! CYHMK has gotten the nod over Bitch in Atlanta and one other show!

"Pleeeeeeeeeeease let it be BITCH!"

Jagger: "...now this first one is called, BITCH!!!"

And I hear it! Not a bad start at all either. I yell "Alllllllright!!!" and the people standing around me look at me curiously. Lol. The black security lady smiles big and broad. I had already told her she was lucky to be enjoying the show at this part of the stadium with all the sound problems in the seats below. I focus on the song. I'm loving it even if it isn't the best live Bitch I've ever heard. It had it's moments. At one point Keith is playing his lead solo much like the studio version instead of those long slashes. It only lasted a few seconds but it stuck in my brain. I was so happy I yelled out "YEEEEEEESSSS!!!" Finally the wait was over! I got my Bitch!!!

Next Jagger and the boys did a surprisingly good version of Moonlight Mile. A little choppy in places as some of the songs on the night would be, but overall a good job. And the vid on the screen was perfect for the song. And it was a full moon in Raleigh that night. So MM was certainly expected.

At this point because of the high from the booze and Bitch, I kind of forgot that the "song vote song" was next on the list. And I must apologize for having unknowingly fibbed here at Gasland last week. I thought I had seen 'Shine A Light' performed in Atlantic City in 2006. After further review that Exile song I was thinking of was Loving Cup. Yet I have "seen" the Stones perform 'Shine A Light' so many times on the TV screen from the movie, 'Shine A Light' and the Stripped videos, I guess it felt like I had seen it performed in person. I already knew my mistake by the time I started for Raleigh, so thank you for your votes for Far Away Eyes but while I was at the show I was hoping for Either, Far Away Eyes, OR ,Shine A Light! Of course Shine A Light is what we got and it topped off four Stones songs in a row I had never seen performed live!

They went into it tentatively for they had not performed it the entire tour. A rare thing to see Jagger unsure of himself but all in all they nailed it with only some minor hesitations!

The great Honky Tonk Women was next and then it was time for Keith. I made a quick head call and was able to catch most of BTMMR. Then Happy! This was the best Happy I've heard in many years! The horn section was in on it too I believe.

Then the powerful Rambler and Jagger demonstrated why he is one of the best on the mouth harp you will ever hear. A very good version. That song never lets you down performed live! Though it was so much better with MT back in 2013. Sorry, but it's a fact.

I got itchy feet at this point and headed to Keith's side of the stadium. All these security folks took their jobs quite seriously as I poked my nose in one section after another. The people dressed in yellow kept their eyes on me and watched every move I made until I finally found my mark. He was about 28 years old, with an unkempt mop top hairdo of sandy blonde hair, had been eating cheetos and corn chips his whole life while playing video games at his parents house. His dull and lifeless eyes noticed me but I could see in his eyes he didn't care what I, or anyone else, did in his section. God love him! And luckily he was "guarding" the prime section next to the catwalk, yet still in the sweet spot!

I took in a few songs there at the entrance but once some couples started to leave the show early to beat the traffic I slipped behind them and made my way down the stairs to their 350 dollar seats to watch the rest of the show. The show sounded great in those seats and it was nice to see the whites of Keith's eyes without the benefit of the jumbotrons.

Keith, by the way, was in great spirits for this show. He was flashing his incredibly white teeth often and I could tell he was pain free in the warm weather. "Great to see him like this!", I thought to myself. Other than the memory of Bitch, my favorite memory of the show is the look on Keith's face just before he tore into Satisfaction. It was a look, and the expression, of Keith from the '70s. He was YOUNG again! It was a mean, badass sneer which took over his face. Like he was thinking, "I'm going to rip you to shreds guitar!". "You're going to do exactly what I tell you to do!" And he WAS in total command as he snapped off the opening to Satisfaction and he and the band performed the best version of that great song I have ever witnessed! It was Beautiful!

What a setlist! What a show!

After the show I was finally able to have some drinks with familiar faces. Suzanne, thin, fun loving lush that she is, was still drunk from 2 hours ago. And Ed was bubbling on how good the show was. We drank and laughed there until the place closed and then I caught a cab with Don Ron from Morocco back to my motel room. I told him the Stones history associated with his Country. He enjoyed the part about Brian being so taken with their music.

The Bitch keeps bitchin' and The Stones are still rolling, but to my gasser friends who will see them in Buffalo - if the show doesn't sound so good in your "cheap seats", then it is time for you to roll to a different part of the stadium - without hesitation! You will be glad you did.

Have a blast in Buffalo!

Time to go out and get a beer!

Cheers!
