RE: Emotinal Rescue

I remember trying very hard to love this album when it came out, because after the indifferent "Black & Blue", I'd been really uplifted by the spectacular "Some Girls" and I really wanted the next album to be just as strong.

But it wasn't. And after listening to that album at least twice every day after I bought it, I soon put it aside and went back to "Some Girls". I've only heard the album a handful of times in the decades since, because it is one of those albums that when I reach for them, I always stop myself and pick another one to listen to instead.

All this to say that like TM, I just now gave it a spin. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten any better since the last time I heard it, whenever that was. The only three songs which I really like on the album are "Let Me Go", "Where the Boys Go" (I know a lot of people dislike this song, but I actually enjoy it) and "Down in the Hole".

Other than that, "Dance (Pt 1)" (is there a part 2 somewhere?) is an indifferent example of the Disco Stones, a sub-species of the band I'm not overly fond of. The title track is better but it's still the Disco Stones. And unlike Wls, Mick's falsetto doesn't do much for me, especially when there is so much of it on a single song. To me, it sounds like an affectation. (Sorry Wls...)

"Send It to Me" is a pseudo-reaggaeish throw-away and I share the opinion of the majority about "Indian Girl". "She's So Cold" is OK, and "All About You" is downright painful. That one plods along, going nowhere at a snail's pace. Keith was starting to lose his voice by then.

Now that that's said, where did I put my copy of "Some Girls" Ronnie?
