RE: A few replies/Gasland 101

First, to answer SV, that's his name jumbled together as one.

Also thanks to DA for her excellent explanation!

any way to edit them for spelling errors etc.

I'm the only one who can edit posts, as this is a very old board. Thing is, I was harshly criticized here a few months ago by a Gasser because I edited a post I had made after I at first left out a single word in the reply I made, if you could believe how petty that Gasser was being! Being dyslectic, I tend to do that every so often, and when I do it, I will fix my mistakes when and if I see it later. I still to this day edit my own posts when this happens to me, even if one person here doesn't like it. To bad to that one person if he still doesn't like it!

But - and this is a big but.... I do highly suggest one thing for anybody who is a bad speller (a major problem for those of us who suffer from dyslexia). There is no need to worry about spelling errors when using this board, as all you need to do is get the Google spellchecker for your browser, and your your spelling errors will be shown to you before you post anything. It is excellent and works automatically, depending how you set it up. I have it set up to underline any misspelled words (and repeated words) and once you put your cursor over the underlined word, it then shows the correct spelling or suggests several spellings, and you just click on the one you want and it then fixes the spelling error(s) for you. The Google spell check is free and a part of the Google toolbar, but if you only want to use the spell check feature, as I do, you can do that and not use the other toolbar features.

I'm curious on when I was on here in the past. I found a few things but I remember some fun discusions I can't find that I would love to read for old times sake.

The only problem is that, especially in old posts from more than 5 years ago, I used to have no choice but to deleted 80% of all old posts each month because of space server issues, which with the current server isn't a problem. But this old board does load slow if I don't do at least some cleaning up each month, so today about 20% of the old posts get deleted.

I've never used the Text Search box so I can't comment on it, but the Year/Month filter works perfectly well

I just wish I could hit my name and see the posts because I don't recall all time periods etc

That is where the text search comes in, and it works excellent too - well, to a point. All you have to do is type in your name/handle, or the handle of anybody you want to check out, and you will have every post/reply (along with the thread) that you (or the Gasser you're looking for) made for the month and year you searched for. That, or if somebody else wrote about you or another Gasser, but you or that Gasser didn't post in the thread, that thread will also come up (but you would have to read through the entire thread to find out where your name/handle came up).

The only problem with this text feature, which I knew would be a problem back when Tee and I created this web board, especially back in '01 when we did this on a shared server, was if you wanted to see all of the posts you made - say starting today in '15 and go all the way back to '01, well, if the filter wasn't set the way it is now, doing that would have put too much of a strain on the server I felt, so I set it not to do that, even if Tee left the option in there so it could still be done in that way. Yes, it might be a pain in the ass now to where you can only do one month at a time, but that's how I got it set up, and how it will stay.
