RE: Vocals/Guitars Mix

I'm not commenting on any of the re-issue stuff ('cause I haven't bought any of them), but I have said before, and will say again, that Jagger's vocals have really hurt the "sound" of their releases ever since "Steel Wheels." I think, and this is just my opinion, that once Mick started doing his solo albums, he thought of himself as a "great" singer. He's not, and never has been. He's a good singer, but not "great" (but he IS one of the best, if not THE best, frontmen of a rock 'n' roll band ever). And yes, T-Man and Gunner have hit the nail on the head: it's his loudness in the mix and over-enunciation/pronunciation of the words that have detracted the band's "sound."

Does anyone remember listening to the old stuff and trying to decipher some of the lyrics? I do...and I REALLY liked how Jagger's vocals shared an equal volume with the other instruments. To me, that sounded more like a BAND...now, since "Steel Wheels" (with the guitars mixed lower and the vocals louder) the Stones sound like Mick Jagger and a back-up band.

C(I want my guitars, bass, and drums Ronnie)R
