RE: RE: Tattoo You Deluxe

If the Stones reissue Tattoo You as a deluxe CD package, which I feel they should, they will likely treat it like Jimmy Page recently treated the new Coda deluxe CD package that's due out on July 31. Coda, like Tattoo You, was a Zeppelin compilation of outtakes from old recording sessions. The truth of the matter is that the Stones are not going to do deluxe reissues of all the albums under their control. I don't think you're going to see a deluxe edition of Black And Blue, a deluxe edition of Steels Wheels, etc. A Tattoo You reissue would allow them to include songs like "Living In The Heart Of Love," "Strictly Memphis," "Criss Cross Man," etc., without having to reissue the albums that those tracks came from.

As a side note....I have been wanting to get this off my chest:

I really feel that the Some Girls deluxe CD was a lost opportunity. First of all, while it's great that we got "We Had It All" and "Tallahassee Lassie" in good sound quality, the fact of the matter is that those songs weren't done for Some Girls. Secondly, there is still a ton of high quality stuff in the can from those sessions. The bonus CD could've been made longer. Thirdly, it was completely unnecessary for Jagger to re-record his vocals and write new words for a number of the outtakes that went on the package. "Lucky In Love" was totally ruined by retitling it "Don't Be A Stranger" and giving it new lyrics. There was nothing wrong with the vocal on the original take that we all know from bootlegs. Lastly, if Jagger truly wanted to be authentic to the original recordings, he shouldn't have put his new vocals up front in the mix on the outtakes. As has been discussed many times on this board, the Stones are a guitar band, and part of what made the classic recordings unique was the position of Mick's vocals in the mix. With the exception of tracks with original vocals like "Claudine," the Some Girls outtakes from the deluxe package don't SOUND like they came from the Some Girls sessions....all due to the position of Mick's new vocal tracks.
