Oh, man! No WAY I'd get rid of my records and if anything, I'd dump the CD's. They just don't take up that much room, though. I don't have any file playing devices connected to my stereo, so the only way I listen to that stuff I on my mp3 player or in my car. Handy, yeah. Awesome or fun? Nah. Not really. If that were the only way to listen to music I'd probably just read a book.
There's no right or wrong answer to this. It all depends on your preferences and your circumstances. I urgently need to free up some room for stuff I've bought which I'm now just piling up.
I'm very much of the digital age. I love the practical aspect of digitalized music, be it on CD, in my computer or on an external device. I can make copies of my favourite albums to play on my CD player so that the original will never get scratched. I can make compilation CDs, or I can burn a CD of an album I love and skip that one stinker song in the middle, I can rearrange the order of the songs when I listen if I feel like it, or I can shuffle them if I feel like it. All things you can't do with a vinyl album.
Get money for your records, though! Don't just donate them. Then some weirdo flipper will get them before they ever see the floor of the place you donate them to.
Don't worry, I will try to extract every last penny I can. There are two places near my house where I can try to peddle them. But some of them were already bought used and became even more used under my ownership. And I didn't always have the best stereo equipment. We'll see how it goes.
