I gave her my favorite book, Up And Down With The Rolling Stones, to read.
As soon as I read this sentence, and before I got to the next one, I thought to myself, Oh no, that's a terrible first book on the Stones to suggest, and then I read what you wrote after that. Don't get me wrong, I love that book too, but for somebody who has never read a book about the Stones, it would be better to let then read something more mellow, something with a lot less stories about all the different bad drugs Mick, Keith and Brian did so much of. Or how Keith allowed his friend's little boys to be used as drug mules for him so his dealer could get his heroin to him... I mean, I even lost some respect for him when I read that bit.
The point of all this is....maybe, sometimes ,we shouldn't read up on our heroes! When you learn about all the skeletons in their closets and the dirt that surrounds them, it can alter the way you feel about them.
No question that happened to me, although not so much in the books I read on them, but when Keith started to talk shit about Brian in interviews in the early 1990s. So you don't even have to read anything, just watch the wrong interview and that could happen to you.
