RE: This week's polls!

But if you or anybody else really believe this (and it's fine if you do), then you guys should have voted for Brian in this poll. Yet BE is way behind in the voting to John, Paul and the other George. GM would had never been involved in the first place had it not been for BE, and in turn then no Ringo in the band, also.

That's why I referred to this poll as something of a "chicken and the egg" situation in one of my earlier posts. There's no great band without the right "behind-the-scene" people, but those people aren't needed if there isn't a band to begin with. So this was really an impossible question to answer: do you go with one of the musicians who changed the face of rock music? Or do you go with one of those who made it possible for them to change it? You have to either pick a camp or else you don't answer the question. But this could be the toughest question I've ever seen in all my years of voting in these polls. There really isn't a satisfactory answer to this one, IMHO.

And yes, I believe that even John and Paul couldn't have done it by themselves. No one can, no matter how much talent one possesses. To support my case, let me present exhibit 1: Steve Gaines. Not many people know him because he was killed in the Skynyrd crash after being on just one studio album, but had he not been, I'm certain that he would today be put on the same pedestal as Jimi, Duane and Stevie Ray. He wrote or co-wrote 4 of the 8 songs on the album, sang one, sang duet with RVZ on another and played amazing guitar throughout the album. Yet before joining Skynyrd, he had toiled in complete obscurity for about 10 years, going from one low-paying bar gig to the next with his band, Crawdad. He had to meet the right people to finally get his chance.

The guy who signed the Beatles to the Parlophone label should also go down in history for allowing events to unfold as they did. Without a record contract, very few people would have heard of the Beatles.
