RE: Columbus OH, May 30 2015 Part B

Now, any show that opens with Jumpin’ Jack Flash and closes with Satisfaction has got to be a seriously great night of Rock N’ Roll, and it really was. There were a couple of sync glitches with the sound because that stuff happens sometimes but it was always corrected right away. Doom and Gloom was good, not great, but that’s what I think of the song anyway. I was slightly disappointed that they didn’t play All Down the Line but how can you complain when they replaced it with Let’s Spend the Night Together? You just can’t complain about that. Maybe it’s because it’s been like ten years since I’ve seen them, but I really didn’t care that every song except for Doom and Gloom was a solid icon of Rock N’ Roll. The crowd loved every second, and when the people around you are having that much fun, how can you complain that they didn’t slow things down and play Can’t You Hear Me Knocking? You can’t. At least you can’t do that and maintain any credibility.

Hell they killed on Midnight Rambler. Keith Richards, driving his guitar with two hands. Ronnie Wood? Dude can flat out play and that’s what he did. Charlie on the money, Jagger – well, really. What can you say about Mick Jagger that hasn’t been said? You pay your money and if you don’t have fun it’s not on Mick. He leaves it all out there. Hell, the whole band does.

For me the highlight was Keith’s set. No ballads. Two rockers. Just the way it should be. Before They Make Me Run, which I think Keith should always play, and Happy, with a blistering pedal steel by Ronnie. No one was going to get beers during Keith’s set. Which you gotta admit, while Slipping Away is a nice song, it’s a good time to go get a beer for sure. Actually it’s not because the line will be two miles long, but you know what I mean. Like I said, in Columbus, no one left during Keith’s set and people really laid the love on the guy, lemme tell ya.

Miss You. Sympathy for the Devil. The crowd singing loud and proud. Man, that was just great and it may be easy to pull the “Too Cool For School” card on stuff like that, but if you do, you’re the one missing out on the fun.

Was this the best Stones show I ever saw? No. I only got that feeling of floating during Wild Horses, which is very strange for me. I’ve seen plenty of bands that can’t ever get my feet off the ground, but The Stones are usually good for a few times a show. It could be me, it could be them. I will say, that it was one of the most fun shows I’ve ever been to, and that’s good enough. I didn’t need it all full of never played rarities. I liked the fact that they got some people from the OU Choir (not Ohio State, Ohio University, kinda unexpected) to sing the choir parts of You Can’t Always Get What You Want. That was neat, I didn’t expect it and where on the record I usually think it’s just unnecessary, I really liked it. They played Paint It Black. They played Gimme Shelter. The show was over two hours and it seemed like twenty minutes.

Best forty bucks I’ve spent in a long, long time!

Went to the Varsity Club afterwards and met some nice people from Buffalo. I think one was one of Stonesdoug’s guys. He was with a guy that was a Stones virgin. That place was mobbed, and it was really nice of them to give the Wonderchick a seat at the bar. The new guy was utterly blown away by how great the show was, and we should all try to see it through his eyes.
