RE: RE: RE: RE: one thing

"I already knew that I wasn't the only target of what you wrote and I wasn't only talking about tickets in my reply, as I think I wrote just as much about the bitching going on about MT. If anything, you have bitched more so in the past about those bitching about MT than about tickets, and for that it sure seemed like you weren't joking. But most of what I wrote about in my reply wasn't about either, but yes, it was made in a thread about tickets."

Yes you are right about me posting more in the past about MT then tickets. And I will veer off topic for a second to address that. That one (1) post can be found in the archives in April of this year under the thread titled "The true story of what's up with MT and this joint" My post was made on 4/29. I encourage anyone interested to revisit that post. I really went off the rails and bitched up a storm. I know it is the only post on the subject of MT because, prior to this thread, I believe it is the ONLY post on ANY subject I have made all of this year. That's since 2014 if my math is right. I guess timelines can be a bitch.

"I disagree with you on what you wrote about it being the promoters fault that tickets prices are so high since they are the ones who really set the prices. The Stones are the main ones who decided in the end what the range of ticket prices will be, not the other way around. If they felt the final prices the promoters set after everything is figured out, then they could say something about it and do something about it to change it, but they don't, because they feel that the price being charged is what they are worth. Since they sell a lot of tickets at this price, one could say they are correct."

I'm glad that we can disagree about this, makes for a better discussion all around. But you know I can be just as pigheaded as you (a fault we both share) and here comes the rub. You did know and expect the rub was coming, right?

In simple terms and I know its more complicated but this business model has been around for years and years and is not exclusive to the Stones. The bands (in this case The Stones) set the price they will make for each show. Their job is to show up, put on a show, don't suck and move on. The promoter can decide if he can make money by paying that set (guarantee) price. His job is to book the venue and negotiate the ticketing fees with the ticket broker. The promoter makes his money on maximizing the cost and sales of tickets. The broker makes his on the service fees. The band (Stones) get their money by showing up. Promoter didn't sell enough tickets? So what, pay the band. Promoter overpriced and over estimated the market? So what, pay the band. The Stones don't care what Joey from Omaha pays for his seat, nor should they. You think they should care even though caring is not in the bands job description. I would rather the band spend more time focused on their music then if Joey is happy with his seat. For years around the message boards it has been a matter of great pride that the mighty Stones hold the highest grossing tour records. Somehow the fans hold that record tight like it is a personal accomplishment. But that pride soon disappears when someone is asked to take out their wallet and pay for a seat.

This is a good place for a reminder, The Stones guarantee per show I believe is lower now then it was for the Bridges, Security, Licks and ABB tours. This despite rising touring cost across the board. Sure the Stones could tell AEG they are being greedy with their ticket price structure, but guess what, after burning the bridges with Live Nation, Cohl and Branson, AEG is the only major player in the business willing to take on the group. And the only reason AEG does this is because they have been bleeding money on attorney fees and losing boat loads of touring act contracts to Live Nation. Having the Stones on board is a feather in their corporation hat. I guess in a way we have to thank AEG even though they are so hated. Without AEG as a promoter, this tour does not exist. The Stones don't self promote tours. The bands that try to operate by being their own promoters can be seen each summer on the State Fair circuit. Wanna pay less for a concert ticket? Plenty of fun at the fair with all kinda rides and 4-H exhibits galore. I once saw Kid Rock at the shooting gallery. Bad shot, but a big spender. Don't know if he had any luck with the ring toss. I had to leave to catch Journeys 45 minute set.

I'm going to finish up by going off topic again and addressing the premise that the Stones owe you something. I can see where you are coming from up to a point. You have spent a lot of money, given a lot of time and poured emotion into following this bands career. And for that, you have received what they have offered and it has given you joy. They have delivered for 50 years and you have consumed that for which you have paid, with maybe a few freebies thrown in along the way. You have made them stars. They wouldn't exist without you. I get it. Good for you and I'm sure they appreciate it. But moving forward, what do they really owe you or anyone else? Seriously, what do you actually think they owe you? Start a thread telling us what The Stones owe you and the rest of the fans. Does what they owe vary in degree as to how many shows have been attended or records bought? Are there kickbacks involved? Can I send a bill directly to the offices in Amsterdam or do I have to go through the official web site? Does Keith have to accept my collect call after midnight? This whole deserving fan thing has me confused. From experience, I have found that a sense of entitlement is a selfish lover that more likely then not, disappoints in the end. I personally try not to set myself up for disappointments in life. Its not good for ones health and mental state.
