Interesting take on that Brian comment about his music being stolen from him. I've heard the quote, of course, but I always took it to mean that he resented the band being taken away from its blues roots. We'll never know for sure what he meant. It could have been a bit of both.
There's no way to know whether Brian, Bill and maybe even Charlie complained privately about stolen song writing credits. But I don't recall anyone saying anything publicly in the 60s. In the earlier days, the Nanker-Phelge credits did give them something and when those disappeared, the band members had other problems such as drug busts keeping them occupied.
It appears that the lack of song writing credits is one of the reasons why MT left the band. But unless I'm mistaken, he also never said anything publicly while he was in the band. All this came later.
Speaking only for myself, I never suspected anything until I read Bill's "Stone Alone".
