YCAGWYW would have made a much better impression had it not been preceded by "Salt of the Earth", which was the last song on "Beggar's Banquet" a year or so earlier. The structure and dynamic of the two songs are very similar, starting with sparse instrumentation and understated solo vocals. Both songs have a nearly identical tempo and gradually build up to a fever pitch with choirs and full-throttle instrumentation. I suspect Mick & company wanted something on the order of SOTE to close "Let It Bleed", but it seems they relied too heavily on the earlier formula, and as a result YCAGWYW sounds a bit unoriginal. Again, if the band has never written and recorded SOTE I probably would not have reached that conclusion.
