I never knew The Country Honk facts. You mean they had HTW and chose Country Honk instead for the album?
Yep, I wrote about this in my book how that all came about!
My guess is CH was already slated for the album and HTW was the single that kind of introduced MT to the world as a Stone? Even though he was on 2 tracks from LIB.
It had to do with that stupid thing that was done in the '60s by so many bands, keeping the single off of the album so it would sell better as a single. Stupid but / and done by many!
I did some wiki research, and depending on who you believe, it looks like CH was worked on first and was the original.
Yep, true. They wanted it to have more of a rock feel to it, so after the first few takes, they did that and then we had HTW, and I'll add, that goodness they did that!
They say Brian actually worked on CH while it was in its early stages. HTW came very soon after though with Brian on guitar and then a short time later, his guitar parts were removed and Taylor added his guitar work.
All true! BJ's guitar was only (officially) removed to make way for his replacement. They didn't want to have their new single, which was to come out after Brian was gone, to feature him and not MT, so MT was given a minor role to play on guitar on that song and BJ's parts were taken off the track. At least, that's what the official story is. It's also been said that some of Brian's guitar is still heard on HTW, and or maybe still on CH, since sometimes they don't, or can't always remove everything. It's not like Brian was still around after the song was released to say, hey, that's my guitar there! Kinda like Ronnie got to say on IORR. When IORR first was released, it was said that Ronnie wasn't on there at all, but he was and now it is noted that he is, after Ron noted where you can still hear his guitar. I bet had BJ lived, we would be hearing the same story for these 2 songs about his guitar being still heard on there.
