Was Ringo the best drummer in the Beatles? IMO, in the early years he was the best drummer for them when they were playing pop songs only, up to around 1965 or so. The later day Beatles could have used a harder hitting drummer, and McCartney showed us, on a few of the songs he played drums on, that he was a better drummer playing in that style, plus overall, he was a better drummer than Ringo was in the band. I'm not saying he could keep a steady beat better than Ringo, as Ringo was great at that, but a hard hitting drummer isn't what Ringo was, and I prefer such a drummer for rock music any day.
