I had such a busy weekend. I went to a great work related party on Friday night until 2 AM, and attended my sons College graduation( and dinner) on Sunday. Between those buttons, lol, on Saturday I was able to continue my assault on some Stones albums that I haven't listened to in a while. I decided to go with the U.S. version of Between The Buttons, and again, wondered to myself why I haven't spun this disc more.
For starters, it has 2 of their greatest hits of all time on it (Ruby Tuesday and Lets Spend The Night Together). The UK version does NOT include these songs! Many of the songs are barely over 2 minutes long and some are barely over 3 minutes log. Side 1 is my favorite of the 2 with LSTNT and RT sandwiching one of my favorite songs on the album, Yesterdays Papers. Connection is another excellent song. I saw Keith do it live on his first solo tour with the Winos. She Smiled Sweetly is another great song.
Of the last 6 songs (side 2), Who's Been Sleeping Here wins the title, for me, even though All Sold Out and Ms Amanda Jones are excellent rockers. One disturbing item is the much talked about appearance of Brian Jones on the cover of the album. Even though the album photo was shot at an ungodly time of the morning after the Stones were in the studio all night, and the lens was smeared with vaseline to give the photo that blurred image, it appears to be the beginning of the end for Brian. He appears to be gaunt and sickly and didn't look too great on the next album cover (TSMR) either.
Regardless, I spun the disc twice on Saturday and plan to do it more often as I have been with Voodoo Lounge and the London Years disc. (London Years REALLY is awesome!!)
