Warhorses/Repeating lyrics/Stones vs Fabs

It’s time for week 819 of our Stones poll and this week I will ask another tour related question, which is: Of the warhorses, which one song would you like to hear the Stones play again on the new US tour? I have 15 songs listed to choose from, 3 of which some might argue aren’t true warhorses since no, they weren’t always played on every single tour like a true warhorse is. But I feel these 3 should be warhorses and played on each tour since they all sound great to me and have always been very popular songs. The 3 tunes are “Paint It Black” and “Get Off Of My Cloud”, 2 songs that they nail whenever they play them, and “Happy”, a song that when Keith sings it, many of the non-Stones fans who usually take their restroom breaks whenever he sings his 2 songs, instead stay to listen to this one.

But which warhorse must you hear? To vote click on: Stones Weekly Poll

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Ron Wood singing 'Ooh La La' vs Keith Richards singing one or 2 of his songs on the upcoming US mini tour, which would you prefer to hear? 57.8% picked what I went with, which was: “I would like to hear Ron Wood singing 'Ooh La La', and Keith Richards singing one of his songs, too”. To see the poll’s full finial results, just click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 818 ..

At the Classic Rock Poll, it’s week 461, and as usual, we will vote in 2 different polls for the week. In the first poll we will ask: Of the songs that repeat the same lyrics over and over again, which one is best? (Part 1 of 5 ) Yes, word repetition in some songs work great, yet it others, perhaps not. Most of the time, the repeated words are the title, or a part of the title, but not always. I must say, it was fun putting this poll together and it took some time, because the only way for me to list how many times a word or words were repeated, well, I had to listen to each song listed in the poll and count! There are going to be a total of 137 songs listed by the time we get to part 4, and I listened to every one of them, so I did a lot of counting, plus there were many other songs I also listened to that didn’t make the cut after I counted. I settled on a word or title being repeated at least 15 times to make the list, with one exception for a short song under a minute long that repeated its title 9 times. But it was a fun job that I started working on way back around November of last year. Sometimes I had to figure out where to start counting, like on songs where words started to repeat repeatedly over and over again, and if the word was being sung as a verse, or just one repeated word. Example, for ‘Hey Jude”, with ‘Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na’, do you start counting just ‘Na-na-na-na-na’ as one verse, or the ‘Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na’ as one? On that one I listed both, yet for the Stones SFTD and its backing vocals, it’s clear that “'woo-woo-who-who” is where you should start counting…. yet with a song like The Human Beinz’s “Nobody But Me”, with the repeated lyric of: 'No no no no no no', that isn’t sang as a backing vocal, nor as a verse, but just one word repeated over and over again, so in that case, “no” alone is counted each single time it’s sang.

So which song do you feel does the best job in repeating a word over and over again? To make your pick for this poll, you can vote here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS, we will for one more week pit 2 albums up against each other, and this one will feature 2 albums that are favorites for Beatles and Stones fans: Abbey Road by The Beatles vs Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones, which album is better? This is the second week in a row that Abbey Road is featured in this VS poll, and no, it wasn’t planned that way, it just happened, and no question, this poll will mainly interest Stones and Beatles fans the most.

Since both of these albums are usually listed as the favorites by their fans for each band, I don’t think I need to really talk about them here, so I won’t.

Which one do you think is better? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: Of the following artists not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame, who should be in there the most?A very popular question indeed, and for only the second time, we reached the 700 mark in votes cast, and yet we had a tie for first place. Deep Purple, who were picked first last year, got picked again this year for the top spot, but they tied with The Moody Blues this time around, with both picking up 5.9% of the vote.

To see the full results from this interesting question, click on: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 460. Plus the top pick for this poll can be found at our Top Ten List (Page 7) . Note, it is not on Page 11, where the newest polls are listed, but on Page 7, since that’s where this poll question was first listed when we first asked this question back in 2012. So this poll is serving as an update there to when this question was first asked.

Since it was a big week for the Rock Hall last week, I wanted to also give a update on the On-Going Rock Poll that asks: Of the Artists in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, who should not be in there? There has been a change in the Top 10 from last year when we last looked over this question here, with Public Enemy, the hip hop group, which was only added to the poll 2 years ago when they were inducted into the Hall, already landing in the top 10 list for this question, as rap groups clearly get a lot of votes in this poll. So the new Top 10 list for this poll is: ABBA (17.9%); Run-D.M.C.(11.8%); Blondie (10.3%); Madonna (8.6%); Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five (7.9%); Beastie Boys (added to the poll on 4/11/12) (5.8%); Public Enemy (added 4/19/13) (3.7%), Sex Pistols (3.5%); Parliament-Funkadelic (3.4%); and Metallica (1.5%). KISS, who was added to the list last year, in their first year picked up 52 votes, which might seem like a lot of votes in the first year, and is, but nowhere as much as both the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy each saw in their first year of voting. Still, they are in 12th place already and less than 15 votes behind Metallica to join the Top 10, so at the pace of votes they are seeing, it’s only a matter of time till they surpass Metallica and join that list.

I should note that I’ve had a few emails in the past asking why I don’t have any of the On-Going polls listed in any of the Top 10 pages on the site. Although I do list a few for both the Stones and Beatles Top 10 lists, I’ve never done it for the Rock polls. So I’m thinking that I’ll do that, perhaps when list page 12 comes around, and place then all on the top of the page, that way it will be easy to update them ever so often, something that I don’t ever have to do with the other polls, since those only run for a week and are not ongoing. So that will be done soon, or at least in the future.

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd vs Abbey Road, by The Beatles, which concept album is better? We saw a somewhat close vote in this one, but a clear winner, too. You can go here to the Classic Rock VS Poll, week 460, to find out what album was chosen. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Now to our Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 214 and we will ask this: John Lennon vs Paul McCartney, who was the better singer in the Beatles? This is kind of like part 2 of the John VS Paul questions.

Gosh, both of these guys had/have fantastic singing voices, so this question might not be as easy to answer as the one asked last week was.

Which Beatle do you think sings better? To vote this week’s Beatles poll, just use this link: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: John Lennon vs Paul McCartney, who was the better songwriter for the Beatles? The pick for this one wasn’t close at all, as a landslide took place. Which Fab was chosen? Just go to Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 213 to see for yourself. Or you can also check out the final results at this page: Beatle’s VS Page

Thanks for taking the time to read about this and last week’s polls, and since you took the time to read this, why don’t you go vote in them now? And to those of you who always do vote – thanks for taking part, and I hope all of you have a great upcoming week!
